Can anyone rent from Hero Wardrobe?
NO. We are not open to the general public for rentals. You have to be an entertainment, fashion, or advertising professional, Costume Designer or Stylist to rent clothing from us. Sorry, we don’t do Halloween.
However, we are selling some of our amazing stock that has been seen in your favorite TV shows, Films, and Advertising campaigns. Feel free to stop by the shop during normal business hours, or visit our EBAY page!
Does Hero Wardrobe offer Bag Check?
YES. We're happy to announce our new designated "Bag Check space"! Your first plaid is $10 , each additional stuffed plaid costs $5. Overnight bag check is an additional $20, per night. Please call in advance to let us know if you will be having items delivered/picked up.
Does Hero Wardrobe buy, sell or take donations?
We are always interested in expanding our collection, so please give us a call if you have an attic of treasures to clean out or if your costume department has become overstuffed with inventory.
Do I need an appointment to come in?
For your convenience, no appointment is necessary. We are open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
If you have a wardrobe emergency, please contact us. We would be happy to speak to you about weekend or after-hours availability. After hours and weekend appointment rates are $350.00 to open Hero Wardrobe and $75.00 per hour to keep the shop open while you pull on a weekend. It's $75.00 per hour to keep the shop open after business hours during the week.
What kind of paperwork does a production need in order to open an account?
We require a Certificate of Insurance, a copy of a signed valid credit card (front and back), as well as the forms available for download on our POLICY page. There are three pages that need to be filled out completely.
Does Hero Wardrobe rent police uniforms?
YES. However, your production must write a Letter of Responsibility on production company letterhead stating your project and that you are releasing Hero Wardrobe of any responsibility for the use and representation of that uniform and that your production agrees to take full responsibility for the obtaining of all necessary legal permissions that are associated with using the uniform or patches you have rented.
How can we pay for our wardrobe rental?
A credit card must be used as a deposit before any rentals are allowed off premises. Commercial rentals must be paid immediately upon return by credit card. Production rentals can be paid through your accounting department using a check or credit card. Hero does not accept cash for any rental transactions.
Does Hero Wardrobe charge tax?
If your production company is tax exempt, please submit an ST-121 form when you open your account. If you are not tax exempt, we will charge the appropriate NYS tax of 8.875%.
If my production is shooting out-of-town, will Hero Wardrobe staff pull clothes for us?
YES. We will be happy to assist you in your costuming needs. If an assistant or designer is not available to come in, our staff member can follow your instruction and pull what you need for a fee of $40.00/hr. (1-hour minimum)
Does Hero Wardrobe handle out-of-town shipping?
YES. We ask that you let us know in advance if you require shipping from our facility. We can use your shipping account or we can bill you for shipping. Depending on the items being shipped, there will be a handling fee allocated to your cost.
Does Hero Wardrobe have fitting rooms or office space available?
No, unfortunately at this time, we have no fitting rooms available.
Does Hero Wardrobe have a “Memo/Approval Policy”?
YES. Anything that goes out on approval gets billed at 25% of the rental cost. The items are expected back by the end of the next business day. For example, if you pick something up at 11:00AM Monday morning, it is due back by 6:00PM close on Tuesday. Anything held after the allotted memo time will incur the full rental price.
Is every item at Hero Wardrobe available for “Memo/Approvals”?
NO. Shoes, accessories and pregnancy bellies are always full price rentals.
WEEKEND MEMO! Memo’s taken on Friday will be billed at 50% and are due back by 6pm MONDAY.
How long is Hero Wardrobe’s rental period?
Our standard policy is a two-week rental period for all projects.
Can items rented from Hero Wardrobe be altered?
YES. Minor alterations can be done in a professional manner. There is absolutely NO CUTTING or permanently changing the integrity of the garment. You may alter hems, sleeve lengths, waists, and fullness on seams. The garment must be brought back to its original condition before return or you will be charged for alterations.
What if a permanent alteration is done to a rented garment?
We will charge a full replacement value to the damaged item and, in addition, require the item be returned to us.
Can we dye or “tech” a garment?
No dying is allowed, although “tea dying” or “teching” garments must first be approved by our staff on an individual basis.
Do we need to dry-clean used items before return?
YES. All used items must be dry-cleaned and returned in a dry-cleaning bag. You are free to use a dry-cleaner of your choice. If clothing is returned used / dirty we will charge you a $25.00 PER PIECE fee for cleaning.
What if items are returned soiled or dirty?
We will charge a $25.00 PER ITEM FEE to any garment that is returned soiled or dirty.
Does Hero Wardrobe have a loss & damaged or replacement fee?
Items that are lost or damaged will incur a replacement fee per your rental agreement. Items cannot be replaced or swapped out in lieu of the wardrobe that was rented. See our RENTAL POLICY page for complete details. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ OUR POLICY PAGE CAREFULLY.
